Your Guide to the Loan Process
What to Expect
Navigating the loan process can be an intimidating, frustrating and stressful. You can save yourself a lot of aggravation by knowing what to expect. Once you get started, we will be with you every step of the way to find solutions to unexpected challenges and make transactions worry-free.
1. Select a loan advisor
Select the loan advisor you’d like to work with. You can meet with your advisor before or after you submit your application. We recommend you do this first so you can review your financial goals, needs and loan options. This is also a great time to review your current credit score and, if needed, make simple adjustments to improve it. We have some suggestions on how to do that here.
2. Apply for your loan
Our online application tools make it easy to apply for a loan online. Once you register on our website, you’ll be able to fill out forms, upload supporting documentation (income verification, tax returns, employment history) and file your application with your loan advisor. 3. We process your mortgage
Once we have all your paperwork, we review it to make sure all the information is true and correct. We’ll check with your employer, landlord and bank(s) for verification. We’ll review your credit score and history. As soon as we are confident that the application is in order, we’ll set up a home appraisal and order the title policy. An underwriter will ensure that you meet all the lender loan requirements and provide preliminary approval. It is likely the underwriter will require additional documentation. The faster you can get this documentation back to us, the faster the loan can be closed.
4. Your loan is closed!
The hard work is done. You’ll be given an appointment to meet with the title company to sign all the papers (and there will be many). You’ll submit your down payment (typically from 3% to 20% or more) in the form of a cashier’s check or wire transfer. You’re home!
